Custom Learner Fields allow admins to customize the information they gather from learners at the time of registration. Options include required or elective fields, text fields, numerical fields, and drop down fields.
Use Case Information
The system automatically gathers certain information from learners when they register, but you might want more information. Custom Learner Fields allow you to get the information you need.
When configured you can control the following:
- View responses that are captured in the learner's profile
- Attach these fields to Learner Reference fields
- Customise reports based on the information
Create a Custom Learner Field
- Navigate to Users > Registration and then Learner Info.
- From there, click Add Custom Learner Field.
- Add the Label, or the question, you would like the learner to respond to.
- The Slug will automatically populate based on what is being added to the Label field, but can be edited as necessary. There is a character limit of 16.
- Select a field type to add choices.
- The options available are Drop Down, Text Field, and Phone Number.
- If Drop Down is selected, the admin can report a different value from the response. For instance, states can be reported in abbreviated form.
- The options available are Drop Down, Text Field, and Phone Number.
- Toggle Required to "Yes" if you wish to make a response mandatory.
Note
You have the option to copy the response to a Learner Reference Field. Learner Reference Fields are recorded in the learner's profile on the Details tab and also appear as column options in many reports. Learners, however, are not able to view or edit their responses unless they are attached to an Onboarding Survey.
Warning
If you also utilize an Onboarding Survey, it's important to keep tabs on which Learner Reference Fields are currently in use. The Onboarding Survey attachments will override any attachments between Custom Learner Fields and Learner Reference Fields.
View Custom Learner Field Information
- Navigate to Users and click Learners.
- Click the name of the learner whose information you want to see.
- By default, you will land on the Details tab.
- Scroll to the bottom of the Details tab and you will see a section titled "Learner Custom Fields". The information is posted there.
Note
If you attached the Custom Learner Field to a Learner Reference Field, it will appear within the appropriate Learner Reference Field (unless an Onboarding Survey question response is attached to the same reference field, in which case the onboarding response will show instead).

- Within a native purchase flow
- On the registration page

Note
Reference field titles should NOT be translated or changed in bulk import CSV templates. As a good rule of thumb, column titles in CSV templates should never be translated.
