Admins have the ability to customize the information they gather from learners at the time of registration. Options include required or elective fields, text fields, numerical fields, and drop down fields.
Responses for these Custom Learner Fields are captured in the learner's profile at the bottom of the Details tab. You can also attach these fields to Learner Reference fields for reporting purposes.
Where do I find this?
To create a Custom Learner Field:
Settings > Setup > Learner Info
To view Custom Learner Field responses:
Users > Learners > Manage > Details tab
How do I do this?
To create a Custom Learner Field:
- Navigate to Settings > Setup > Learner Info and click Add Custom Learner Field.
- Add the Label, or the question, you would like the learner to respond to.
- The slug will automatically populate based on what is being added to the Label field, but can be edited as necessary. There is a character limit of 16.
- Select a field type to add choices.
- Options: Drop Down, Text Field, and Phone Number (numerical only).
- If Drop Down is selected, the admin has the ability to report a different value for the response. e.g. States can be reported in abbreviated form.
- Options: Drop Down, Text Field, and Phone Number (numerical only).
- Toggle "Required" to "Yes" if you wish to make a response mandatory.
- You have the option to copy the response to a Learner Reference Field. Learner Reference Fields are recorded in the learner's profile on the Details tab and also appear as column options in many reports.
Note
If you also utilize an Onboarding Survey, it's important to keep tabs on which Learner Reference Fields are currently in use. The Onboarding Survey attachments will override any attachments between Custom Learner Fields and Learner Reference Fields.
To view Custom Learner Field info:
- Navigate to the Users menu on the left navigation and click Learners.
- Click Manage next to the chosen learner.
- You will by default land on the Details tab.
- Scroll to the bottom of the Details tab and you will see a section titled "Learner Custom Fields".
- Also, if you attached the Custom Learner Field to a Learner Reference Field, it will appear on the same Details tab in the appropriate Learner Reference Field (unless an Onboarding Survey question response is attached to the same reference field, in which case the onboarding response will show instead).

What else do I need to know?
- Custom Learner Fields will appear anywhere a learner can register for the site.
- Panorama clients do not have the ability to change the Custom Learner Fields or hide them.
- Once Custom Learner Fields are added, there is an error precedence on the registration form: If the learner leaves the primary fields blank (email, password, etc.), the learner will see the errors for these primary fields first. Next, the learner will see the errors for required custom fields left blank.
- Drop down custom fields cannot be left blank by the learner - a value must be selected. Please be aware of that when creating the options for the learners to select.
