Do you need to assess your learner's external or soft skills? You can lead your instructors to go to the Assessment page, search for someone in the course, and actually take an assessment on their behalf.
Use Case Information
Admin users have the ability to take a quiz or test on behalf of a learner with feature available with the Quiz or Test assessment page types. Some common use cases include:
- Instructors need to manually grade a group project.
- Assessments that require the learner to complete a physical ability assessment.
- Instructors need mark the answer to a one questions assessment: Pass or Fail?
How to Configure This Feature
Please follow the below steps to enable this feature:
- Create or navigate to a course with an assessment page.
- If you need to add a new assessment page, click the plus sign in your course outline > hover over the Add Page icon and click.
- Choose a Quiz or Test page. Title the assessment and Save.
- Once you are viewing your assessment page, go to Quiz/Test Options and expand the options menu.
- Toward the bottom of the assessment options, toggle "Instructor takes quiz/test on behalf of learner?" to "Yes".
- Click Save
- Publish changes.
Instructor Experience
To take an assessment on behalf of a learner, please follow the below steps:
- Navigate to view the content where the assessment is located. There are two ways to accomplish this:
- Courses > All Courses > Click on the three dots > Select Preview from the dropdown
- Courses > All Courses > Click on Content Title > Click the Preview icon in the top right
- Go to the quiz or test page where you will need to take the assessment.
- Select the learner.
- Learners can be selected in 3 ways:

Clicking the Learner From the List of enrolled learners.
02Searching for a learner in the search field, then selecting the learner from the populated results.
03Clicking "Include unenrolled learners?" and then either searching for the learner or selecting from the updated list of learners.
- Learners can be selected in 3 ways:
- Proceed completing the assessment.
Tip
A role permission for this feature is available: "Take Assessments on behalf of Learners". The permission is automatically enabled on admins, client admins, and client managers.
Learner Experience
When this feature is enabled for an assessment, the learner will see a translatable message on the quiz or test page: "An instructor will complete this assessment on your behalf."
Tip
If you would like to modify this message, go to Settings > Translations > Platform Translations and search for this field: instructor-assessment.learner-instructions

Note
Any value in the "Start of Quiz/Test Message" field under Quiz/Test Options will override this message. Clear out that field and make sure to save & publish if you are having trouble getting the instructor message to display after enabling the feature.
Notes, Tips, & Considerations
If applicable, opening paragraph before steps (sometimes not necessary).
- Assessments can be retaken and will behave the same way as taking the assessment for the first time.
- After completing the assessment, the entry will be listed in reports along with the individual question answers for the assessment.
Warning
The "Instructor takes assessment on behalf of learner" setting and the "Assessment is manually graded" setting should not be enabled together.
