Introducing Game-Changing Course Annotations!
Get ready to take your teaching to the next level with our brand-new Annotations feature! Instructors and teachers can now add personalized, supplemental notes to any course. Tailor your content to meet the unique needs of specific groups of learners without changing the main course material. Enhance your students' learning experience with targeted insights and specialized notes designed just for them. Elevate your teaching and make a lasting impact with Annotations!
Here's some inspiration to see if Annotations might be a good fit for you:
- A workshop facilitator is aware that a lot of people in her VILT also completed a related workshop last quarter. She wants to highlight the connection between the two workshops and remind the participants of some other pre-existing resources / knowledge that may be relevant. She can use an annotation to leave in a note on one of the pre-learning pages that participants complete before the meeting.
- A teacher has a lot of second language learners in his class and has prepared an extra vocabulary activity to help support these students as they watch a video in one of TI’s courses. He can use an annotation to link to the extra resource on the same page as the video.

SEARCH
Improve Search for Numbers and Special Characters
As part of our ongoing effort to optimize search logic across the platform, we’ve improved the way search handles strings that include numbers and special characters. We’ll now match on numbers in the same way we match on letters. For special characters, our search logic will attempt to determine whether you’re using them as a filter operator (e.g., a hyphen used as a negative / NOT filter) or as a part of a name / title. If you want to be sure that your special characters are interpreted as part of a name / title, you can encase your query in double quotes “…”.
You’ll see this new behavior as a learner when you search the catalog and as an admin when you search the main site or panorama content list, event list, ecommerce item list, and content list in a learner profile.
Stay tuned for additional updates to search.

Custom Content Selection in New Creation Flow
🎉 We couldn't be more excited to announce the release of Custom Content Type Selection in the new Content Creation Flow! We heard you loud and clear - this is a vital piece of your content creation workflow. This addition makes content creation easier and more customizable from the get-go.
We've added this selection into the flow after you select a base content type and start from blank. If you select a template instead, the custom content type copies over.
Here's what you can look forward to:
- Effortless Selection: All relevant options are displayed in a convenient dropdown menu.
- Smart Sorting: The sort order is based on the most recently created content type, making it quick and easy to find what you need.
- Streamlined Process: If there's only one custom content type available, we'll skip this step to save you time.
Get started now and enjoy a more streamlined content creation experience!
Note
You can still edit the content type anytime within the Authoring Catalog settings.
Tip
Friendly reminder to start that preview and check out the new flow! The new content creation flow will become the default experience on July 17th.
We released the following quality improvements:
We’ve created a new REST endpoint to allow you to efficiently reset progress and revoke access for a particular user in a particular learning path. A few key things to note about using this endpoint:
- The endpoint can only be used for learner users.
- If you revoke access for a learner who has the learning path provisioned to their panorama, access will automatically be re-provisioned shortly after the endpoint is triggered.
- These actions are tracked in the Content Actions Log as
status_change
andrevoked_access
action types. - This endpoint only impacts learning paths and not the courses within. Resetting course progress is a separate action.
See our API documentation for more details.
BI CONNECTOR
Update to BI Connector 1.0 Certificates
For customers that utilize our BI Connector 1.0:
AWS RDS has issued new CA certificates which our BI Connector utilizes. In order to provide the best security possible you are required to update the certificate to connect to BI Connector. This change must be completed by June 21, 2024.
Action Steps
- Download new CA certificate from https://truststore.pki.rds.amazonaws.com/global/global-bundle.pem, if you're using Window it may require a PKCS7 cert https://truststore.pki.rds.amazonaws.com/global/global-bundle.p7b
- Follow the instructions in the BI tool you’re using to install and use the CA cert to connect via SSL/TLS
We released fixes for the following:
- When manager manually marks learning path as completed and then learning path progress is reset, the learning path still shows on the transcript as completed even when Displaying Past Course Completions is enabled.

LOCALIZATION
XLIFF Content Localization Import/Export
Our new XLIFF content localization allows customers with globally distributed learners and teams to easily localize course content into multiple languages using any third-party localization tool that can handle XLIFF files (the standard file format for localization / translation data). At a high level, the user flow for creating a new, localized version of a content item involves exporting, updating, and then re-importing an XLIFF file. This functionality is available for most content types as well as rich text Asset Library items. For more information, check out our support article.
This functionality is a premium feature and behind a feature flag.
Reach out to Thought Industries Tech Success & Support for assistance to enable this feature in your instance.
API
Ancillary API Keys: Named Keys and More Granular Permissions
Manage your integrations more easily and securely with our new Ancillary API Keys. This feature offers increased flexibility by enabling you to create & manage multiple keys and assign different permissions to each key, ensuring each key has the appropriate level of access for your needs. You can read more about Ancillary Keys in the support article here.
Note
Functionality for legacy keys (now referred to as “primary keys”) is not impacted by this release.
