How to Migrate to the New Ecommerce Engine
You've reviewed the previous sections and decided it's time to make the jump to the new Ecommerce engine. Yay! Before we walk through the simple process of switching your site to the new Ecommerce engine, let's go over the aspects you do not need to worry about in this transition:
- Modifying any content or product-level prices, or ecommerce settings. All settings and values will carry over.
- Your relationship or account with Stripe.
- Your relationship or account with Avalara.
- Informing your learners of any changes with regards to their data usage or protections. See Information Security and Data Controls for more information.
- Additionally, the following feature sets and user interfaces were untouched, and therefore require no new training or understanding:
- Configuring prices for all content and product types
**This doesn’t apply for Multicurrency, as that will introduce a new experience. - Bulk Purchasing
- Training Credits
- Registration and Redemption Codes
- Global Coupons
- Content-Level Coupons
- Configuring prices for all content and product types
Migrating to the New Ecommerce Engine
First, please consult with your Account Team to ensure your needs will be met with the new feature set and to come up with a transition plan.
This plan will include re-enabling your payment gateways for the new Ecommerce engine. This typically takes 15-20 minutes. During this time, learners will not be able to conduct transactions so it's very important to make a transition plan and try to do this during learner traffic downtime. If you have access to a sandbox, we highly recommend first testing this transition in that environment. If you test in your sandbox first, you will need to re-complete the process in your production environment.
- Create a transition plan with your Account Team, taking into consideration the downtime to reconnect your ecommerce providers (typically 15-20 minutes).
- At the appropriate time, your Account Team will enable the new Ecommerce engine on your site. This is when downtime will start.
- Once enabled, you will begin to reconnect your ecommerce providers by:
- Navigating to Ecommerce Settings > General, and creating a new store by following the prompts in the management interface or this article.
- Connecting a payment gateway to your Default Payment Method Set.
- Connecting to Avalara (if applicable).
