Learning paths are created by assembling content authored within the platform, in a specific sequence, within milestones. These milestones have completion criteria so that learners enrolled in a learning path will be guided through content in a very controlled manner. Learning paths can be used to adhere to specific guidelines around certifications, time requirements, credit guidelines, and more.
Where do I find this?
Content > Add Content > Add Learning Path
Tip
You can display a different content name to learners (i.e. Training Path or Certification Path) by going to the individual Learning Path, then Actions > Settings > Design & Display, then update the Learning Path Type. Make sure to Save!
You can also use the Learning Path Type to differentiate groups of Learning Paths in reporting. To utilize this, you would use or add the 'Content Type' filter to reports.
How do I do this?
- From your homepage, select Content.
- Click Add Content.
- Select Add Learning Path.
- Enter the name of the learning path, and then click Save & Continue.
- Start building your learning path by adding milestones (i.e. “Stage 1”, “Stage 2”).
- Add content to your milestones.
- This content can be either required or elective.
Tip
Marking content as required will automatically add it to the completion criteria.
- If the content has more than one available session, you can choose whether or not learners are able to select and complete any session.
- Click Save.
- This content can be either required or elective.
- Specify completion criteria for each milestone.
Note
This can include time-based criteria, CEU- or credits-based criteria, completion of a certain number of digital courses, etc. If your site has any award types set up, this will also be an option for completion criteria.
Tip
If more than one elective is added, an option to make one or more electives required as part of completion criteria will display.
- Click Save.
- Under the Settings tab, complete the fields for Catalog, Design & Display, Access, and eCommerce. If desired, you can go to Certifications to attach a certificate that will be awarded upon completion of the learning path.
Tip
If set up, a certificate would be granted to the learner once they've completed all completion criteria set at the milestone level.
- To set up email campaigns around content within learning paths visit Communications > Learner Notifications.
What else do I need to know?
- A learner can enroll in a learning path just as they would with any other piece of content. Once enrolled in a learning path, learners will be able to view it from their dashboard via the Learning Path tab on the Course Access widget (see image below). From here, learners can click into the learner view of the learning path to see all milestones, content and completion criteria.
- When a learner clicks Start on a piece of content, it will automatically enroll them. This means that the specific piece of content will now be viewable from the In Progress tab on the learner's dashboard. Additionally, any campaigns attached to that content item will trigger. Once content is completed it will move from "In Progress" to "Completed".
- If a learner has already completed a piece of content within a learning path (prior to enrolling in said learning path), he or she will not be required to complete it again.
- The Hero Image field under Settings will populate the hero image for the learner view within a learning path (see image below).
