There are multiple settings that can be enabled to allow learners to engage in areas outside of the course content. These settings can be used to control whether or not learners will have access to the following:
- Discussions
- Syllabus Titles
- Galleries
- Resources
- Reflections
- Quiz Builder
- Show Progress
- Display Assessment Results Page
- Linked Reflections (if enabled)
- Instructor Messaging
Where do I find this?
Content > Actions > Settings > Design & Display
How do I do this?
- From your homepage, select Content.
- Click the Actions drop-down next to the course you want to alter and select Settings.
- From the left menu, click Design & Display.
- Scroll to the bottom to find the optional settings you can enable. Toggle any setting to "Yes" to enable it.
- Discussions: If enabled, learners will have an open discussion forum organized by course section. This feature is enabled by default.
- Syllabus Titles: If enabled, learners will see title names for every page, in addition to the titles for sections and lessons.
- Galleries: If enabled, learners will have a forum to upload images, to share and comment on, within a course.
- Resources: If enabled, learners will have access to downloadable files and/or an interactive resource library, both of which would be added by a course author.
- Workbooks: If enabled, learners will have access to a workbook area that would house all workbook pages added within a course (to be viewed or printed).
- Quiz Builder: If enabled, learners will have access to the Quiz Builder tab where they can build their own "super quiz" from questions answered incorrectly or skipped, in previous quizzes within a course.
- Show Progress: If enabled, learners will be able to see their progress/completion status for each course related to completion criteria set by the admin.
- Continue to Display Assessment Results page: If enabled, learners will continue to view the assessment results page if they navigate back to an assessment page.
- Linked Reflections enabled: Linked Reflections are a way to connect workbook/reflection pages throughout a course. The pages can be in different sections or lessons and give the learner a summary of all completed pages. See our linked reflections article for more information.
- Instructor Messaging: If enabled, learners will be allowed to send emails to listed instructors.
Tip
If discussions are enabled, you also have the option to display discussion rules that learners would see before posting a new thread. This is done in the global Settings area (Settings > Content > Organization & Display > Advanced). Note that discussion rules would apply to all courses where discussions are enabled.
