In the Thought Industries authoring tool, you have options of how to present your videos to your learners. You can sandwich videos amongst other content inside a course or you can opt to show a standalone video. Below you'll find information on how to create a standalone video content type.
Use Case Information
The video base content type generates a standalone scrollable text page with a video prominently displayed at the top. It offers various settings and features, allowing you to showcase a video on a single page, along with optional additional text.
Learner View:
Creating a Video Content Type
By default, your platform offers a ready-to-use Video base content type for creating and building your videos without extra set up. Before you begin, it's important to determine if "video" is the appropriate content type terminology for your learners. For example, you might prefer your learners to see "Demos" as the content type instead of "Video".
To create a new content type based on the Video base content type, see this article.
Tip
If you've already completed this step, or you're good to go with the term "Video" displaying to learners, skip ahead to creating Videos!
Creating a Video Content Item
Now that you've set up a Video Content Type, you'll see it as an option when you go to add a new content item.
- From your homepage, select Courses > All Courses.
- Click the plus icon in the top right corner to Add New Content.
- From the content creation flow, click the Select button on the Video tile.
- Next, decide if you'd like to build your video from Blank (scratch) or off of a previously built video.
- If starting from Blank, select the content type you would like to build off of and then title your video.
- If not starting from Blank, select the existing template to work off of from the dropdown menu and title your new video.
Tip
If you are taking advantage of templates, the content type and many other settings will be carried over to the new video. To learn more about templates, check out this help article.
