The Navigation Bar widget creates a series of navigation links for users to access other pages within your site. You can also add external URLs and drop-down menus to this widget.

Add the Navigation Bar Widget to Layouts

To incorporate the Navigation Bar Widget onto a standard layout or a custom page:

  1. From your homepage, select Site > Site Builder.
  2. In the left menu, select Layouts. 
  3. Choose from the provided default page layouts.
  4. Select Actions and then Edit from the dropdown.

    Note

    If you want to add the Navigation Bar widget to a custom page, click Actions and then Design from the dropdown.

  5. In the left sidebar menu of available widgets, select Navigation Bar Widget.
  6. Add a link by clicking Add Link.

  7. Fill in Link Text. There are two options for link formatting: Dropdown Lists or Standalone Links.  
    • To create a dropdown list in the navigation bar, enable the toggle Is Dropdown?. The Link Text simply becomes a list title. Next, click Done.
      • Add sublinks in the dropdown menu by clicking Add Sublink. This option only appears if you've first saved one Link Text item as a dropdown. Fill in the Sublink Text and Link To, then click Done.
    • To have a standalone link in the navigation bar, skip the dropdown toggle and continue to the field Link To.

    Note

    You can link to default layouts (which have pre-determined slugs for your site) like the Homepage or the Catalog, or you can choose to link to another URL. You also have the option to open the link in a new window.

  8. Move links up or down by using the up/down arrows next to the links.
    • You also have the ability to rearrange the sublinks underneath the main links by using the four point icons.
  9. Edit the links by using the pencil icon.
    • Similarly, delete the links/sublinks by using the trash icon. You will be asked to confirm deletion.
  10. Click Save.

Your newly designed widget will be easily located at the bottom of your page layout.

Other Editing Options

  • After saving, edit the settings for the widget by clicking the Pencil Icon at the top left of the widget.
  • To reposition the widget on the page, simply click the Carrots on the left side of the widget.
  • To delete the widget off the page completely, click the Trash Can Icon on the right side of the widget.
  • To preview how the widget appears for your learners, click View Preview Mode at the top right of the page. Click Back to Editor Mode to continue editing the page layout.

Tip

After making updates to your page design, we always recommend viewing the final product from a learner's perspective to get the full effect.
