Multicurrency enables admins to configure multiple currencies on a single instance and assign prices to content per currency. Learners are shown prices and content availability based on their Preferred Currency, ensuring a localized and accurate purchasing experience.
Use Case Information
If you serve learners across multiple regions, Multicurrency allows you to price the same content differently by currency while ensuring learners see only the content they can purchase in their local market.
When configured you can control the following:
- Offer localized pricing for courses, events, and other purchasable content
- Control the learner catalog experience based on currency availability
- Provide a consistent, region-appropriate checkout experience
Note
Because currency impacts catalog visibility, Multicurrency should be configured with consideration for other access controls such as Panorama access provisioning, purchasable content, and others.
Before You Begin
✅ Requirements
- New Ecommerce Engine enabled
- Multicurrency feature enabled on your instance
- At least one currency configuration created
Note
Multicurrency is a foundational ecommerce setting. Frequently enabling and disabling it is not recommended.
Enabling Multicurrency
If you are already using the New Ecommerce Engine, moving to Multicurrency only requires enabling the feature flag and beginning configuration.
What to Expect
- Learner access to content does not change
- Existing content prices remain unchanged
- The following features are hidden when Multicurrency is enabled:
- Products (Collections, Shippable Products, Subscriptions)
- Bulk Purchasing (if enabled)
- Learner Reference Pricing
- Suggested Pricing
Admin Experience
Preferred Currency
Preferred Currency determines which prices and content a learner can see, similar to how Preferred Language controls localization.
- Preferred Currency is managed by admins
- Learners cannot currently update their own currency
Preferred Currency and Content Visibility
When a learner has a Preferred Currency set:
- Their catalog automatically filters out content without pricing in that currency
- Learners see content with a non-zero price in their currency or content marked as Free with Registration
If no Preferred Currency is set, learners default to the site’s primary currency.
Tip
The use case of making content free in one currency and paid in another is not supported.
Note
Currency-based filtering directly impacts catalog visibility and should be reviewed alongside Panorama provisioning and access rules.
Configuring Prices on Content
Multicurrency pricing is supported across all standard content types and pricing models.
Currency Configurations
Currency Configurations determine which currencies learners can transact in and which currencies appear in content authoring.
Each configuration includes:
- Configuration name (admin-facing only)
- Currency
- Display locale
- Payment set
Creating a Currency Configuration
- Navigate to Ecommerce > Settings > Currency.
- Click the + icon.
- Enter a configuration name, select a currency, choose a locale, and assign a payment method.
The locale controls how prices are formatted on content detail pages and at checkout.
Note
Locale formatting may vary slightly by browser, but pricing will always be clearly displayed.
Supported Currencies
Thought Industries currently supports the following currencies: USD, EUR, BRL, AUD, CAD, MXN, TWD, SGD, DKK, CNY, GBP, PLN, THB, KRW, INR, AED, JPY, CHF, SEK, NOK, NZD, ZAR
Note
Payment sets may be shared across currency configurations, but each currency can only be linked to one payment method.
Warning
Switching Multicurrency on and off can result in duplicate currency configurations and course authoring errors.
Setting Preferred Currency (UI)
- Go to Users > Learner Profile.
- Locate Preferred Currency next to Preferred Language.
- Select a currency from the dropdown.
Available options reflect your configured currency configurations.
