Use Case Information
Linked Reflections are a collection of reflection pages that are linked together in course content. They are a great tool learners can use to build out a reference guide or put new concepts into practice throughout the longer course. Once the last reflection page has been completed, learners have access to a summary with all reflection content.
Consider making reflections required by adding them as part of a course's completion criteria to help drive learner engagement and make learning active!
Linked Reflections are behind a feature flag.

Notes, Tips, and Considerations
- Make sure to enable Linked Reflections in Course Utilities. To do this, go to Courses > All Courses > Content Title > Content Step > Utilities > Study Tools > Reflections Enabled > Yes > Save.
- If you wish to allow learners to answer all questions from the Summary page instead of clicking through each Reflection page, enable toggle Skip to Linked Reflection Summary enabled? to Yes in Utilities > Study Tools.
- All reflection pages are available in the Course Utility in the left sidebar where learners can easily access and print all of their entries. For Linked Reflections, the workbooks will display the summary of all entries here.
- The responses that learners enter into workbooks is only visible to that learner. Administrators do not have access to this content.
- Learners can label or name their Linked Reflection on the first reflection page in the course. This label will display in the Course Utility sidebar so learners can identify and reference their workbook summaries as needed. This page is also where the "Start of reflection message" will display to the learner.
- Even without the setting to prevent progress enabled, the learner will see a greyed out next page arrow. If learners click the arrow to proceed, they will receive a warning message (shown below), but still be able to proceed.
- If the learner has not completed a Linked Reflection and they to navigate to the incomplete reflection from the Course Utility sidebar, they will be taken to the reflection page where they left off. The learner can only see the summary page once all reflection pages are complete.
- Add a Linked Reflections Manager Widget which allows learners to see their workbooks in one central location to browse, sort, rename, delete, and interact with completed linked reflections. Add the widget to any place the widget is available in layouts. For example, you can add it to a learner's dashboard by clicking Site > Site Builder > Layouts > Dashboard Layout > Actions > Edit. In the Add Available Widgets column, locate the Linked Reflection Manager widget, then configure the widget accordingly in the Linked Reflection Manager column.
- Visit Settings > Translations > Platform Translations to change the words "Workbook" or "Reflections" to a term that better suits your education program.
